* Only use naturally tanned, Oak Bark leather from local livestock as a by-product from the meat industry. We never use chrome tanned or leathers tanned using chemical or toxic treatments.
* Only bank with The Co-operative Bank as they have a proven track record of ethical banking and investments.
* Make to order in small batches in an effort to eradicate waste, making only what is ordered and working by natural daylight where possible. Nothing rushed can ever be quality craftsmanship.
* All packaging is made from recycled materials. Boxes are made in England from heavy kraft board, they are very strong and entirely reusable for storage or completely recyclable if you prefer.
Paper and goods tags are hand stamped with archival ink and tied with natural jute twine - which for all you bushcrafters out there - makes a nice tinder!
Animal Welfare
The World Animal Protection Index - an international non-profit animal welfare organisation - shows that the UK is a joint leader with some of the highest animal welfare standards in the world.
This means the animals your beautiful leather comes from could roam free outdoors and were not kept cooped up in artificial environments and why ERNEST WALKER LTD. only works with local leather from the UK.
Unlike modern leather tanning processes the Oak Bark Tanned leather we use is tanned traditionally using oak bark and local river water and produces zero harmful or toxic waste.

Looked after, ERNEST WALKER LTD. handmade goods will give you a lifetime of faithful service but when they do eventually come to the end of their long and repairable life - they can be recycled or will almost completely biodegrade.
